Cost
How Much Does an Off-Grid Solar System Cost?
A complete off-grid solar system typically costs anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000+, depending on how much power you use, how many days you need to run without sun, and what backup you want behind it. A cabin or weekender running essentials sits at the bottom of that range. A full-time family home with normal appliances, or a farm with pumps and sheds, sits well up it.
Battery storage is usually the biggest single line on the quote. An off-grid system has to be sized for your worst run of weather rather than an average day, and most residential off-grid homes need 20–40 kWh of storage for two to three days of autonomy. The other big variables are the size of the solar array, the inverter (for off-grid work we install Selectronic, which is Australian-made, and Victron), whether a backup generator is integrated, single or three-phase supply, and how remote and accessible the site is.
Against that, compare what the grid would cost you. On a new build or rural block where a network connection quote runs into tens of thousands of dollars, off-grid often stacks up; on a home that is already connected, disconnecting is rarely the cheapest way to cut your bills, and a grid-connected battery usually makes more sense.

Questions
Off-grid solar systems typically range from $20,000 to $100,000+ depending on your energy requirements, battery capacity, and backup systems needed. Our consultation includes a detailed assessment of your needs and a customised quote for your specific situation. Battery storage requirements depend on your daily energy usage and how many days of autonomy you need without solar production. Most residential off-grid systems require 20-40kWh of storage for 2-3 days of backup power. Our energy assessment helps determine your exact requirements.
While not absolutely required, we generally recommend a backup generator for most off-grid systems. This provides redundancy during extended periods of low solar production, extreme weather events, or unexpected high energy usage. We can integrate a generator that automatically starts when battery levels drop below a set point.
Yes, a properly sized off-grid system can power all standard home appliances. However, energy-efficient appliances are recommended to maximise your system's capacity. High-draw items like electric heating, air conditioning, and pool pumps require careful consideration and may need larger system capacity.
Off-grid systems require more maintenance than grid-tied systems. Routine tasks include battery monitoring, occasional equalization charging for certain battery types, generator maintenance, and system inspections. We offer maintenance packages and remote monitoring to ensure optimal performance of your off-grid system.
