Growatt Battery Review (2026): APX, MINA and the Warranty

Growatt is a big name in inverters, and a Growatt battery often comes bundled into a "solar plus battery" deal on the strength of that. The question we're asked is whether the battery half of the bundle stands up as well as the inverter half.

Growatt isn't one of the brands we install as standard, so this is an installer's read of the hardware, warranty and support, not a long-term install record. Everything below comes from Growatt Australia's product pages, datasheets and warranty card, and the ACCC's recall notices, linked as we go.

Is a Growatt battery any good?

The hardware is reasonable: the APX HV battery uses cobalt-free LFP modules of 5 kWh, stacking from 5 to 30 kWh, rated IP66 with aerosol and fuse protection and module-level optimisers. The weak point is the Australian warranty card for the APX: it's non-transferable, guarantees 70% capacity for the first five years and 50% for the next five, caps yearly throughput, and drops to three years if the battery isn't monitored. That's weaker than the 10-years-to-70% terms on the batteries we install, and it's the main reason we'd look elsewhere.

Last updated: 26 October 2026. Specifications come from Growatt Australia's APX HV Battery-S0 datasheet (March 2026), MINA All-in-One datasheet (September 2026) and its APX battery warranty card for Australia. Check the current documents for the exact model on your quote.

Growatt batteries in Australia

Growatt's Australian product range lists three battery options for homes.

APX HV Battery: the main one

The APX HV Battery AU stacks a power module on top of APX 5.0P-B1 battery modules. According to the S0 Australian datasheet:

  • 5 kWh modules, one to six per system, for 5 to 30 kWh.
  • 100% depth of discharge listed on the AU datasheet.
  • IP66, natural cooling, wall or floor mounted.
  • Operating range −10°C to 50°C.
  • Maximum charge and discharge power of 6.2 kW for the system, limited further by the inverter.
  • Pairs with Growatt's MIN 2500–6000TL-XH single-phase inverters.

Growatt says each module has its own energy optimiser, so packs of different ages, capacities and even suppliers can be mixed. Safety layers listed are the BMS, the module optimiser, a fuse and an aerosol unit.

MINA: the newer all-in-one

The MINA All-In-One is Growatt's answer to the GoodWe ESA and Sigenergy-style stacks. Its AU datasheet lists a 5 to 10 kW single-phase hybrid with 7 kWh APX 7.0P-B3 modules, one to seven per stack for 7 to 49 kWh, 100% depth of discharge, IP66, a 63A bypass for whole-home backup and a switch time under 10 ms. A three-phase sibling, the MODA, covers 5 to 15 kW.

Two cautions from the datasheet itself: the specifications are marked preliminary, and the bidirectional DC charger is listed as coming soon.

ALP LV: low voltage

Growatt also lists the ALP LV, a low-voltage LFP battery from 5 to 50 kWh. It's aimed at low-voltage hybrid and off-grid setups rather than the high-voltage systems most Sunshine Coast homes get.

Growatt inverter review

Growatt is best known here for its inverters. The Australian range includes battery-ready single-phase MIN XH inverters (2.5 to 6 kW) that take an APX battery later, three-phase MOD inverters (including the MOD 5–15KTL3-HU hybrid with integrated backup), SPH single-phase hybrids and SPF off-grid inverters. That breadth is genuinely useful if you want to start with solar and add a battery later on the same brand.

The 2023 SPH inverter recall

On 17 November 2023, Growatt New Energy Australia published a recall (PRA 2023/19974) for SPH3000 to SPH6000TL BL-UP hybrid inverters sold between 1 July 2022 and 31 October 2023. The emergency power supply (EPS) port plug could be removed by hand, exposing live, hazardous voltage.

If you own one: the notice says to switch the inverter off and contact Growatt Australia on 1800 476 928 or australia@ginverter.com to have the connector permanently secured. The recall covers those inverters, not the APX or MINA batteries.

The Growatt battery warranty: read it twice

This is where Growatt falls behind. The APX warranty card for Australia covers the APX 5.0P-B1 module and says:

  • Non-transferable. It runs 10 years from purchase, but no more than 10 years and 3 months from delivery from Growatt. Selling the house doesn't pass it on.
  • 70%, then 50%. The battery is guaranteed to keep at least 70% of nominal energy for the first five years, and at least 50% for the next five.
  • Yearly throughput cap. Discharge above 300 times nominal energy per year (1,350 kWh per module) reduces the warranted capacity, and the performance warranty is void if the total reduction passes 30%.
  • Monitoring or three years. The battery must be monitored on Growatt's platform, or the warranty drops to three years.
  • Shelter required. Outdoor installation without proper shelter, direct sunlight and nearby heat sources are excluded, despite the IP66 rating.
  • Mixing caution. The card excludes connecting or mixing different types of battery modules. Ask how that sits with the marketing about mixing packs.
  • Fast claims. Report to your supplier within 14 days and lodge with Growatt within one month.
  • The second five years. Growatt may choose to buy the battery back pro rata, or offer a new one at a price you pay, and won't cover labour or logistics.

The card also states your rights under the Australian Consumer Law still apply. The local entity is Growatt New Energy Australia Pty Ltd in Silverwater, NSW.

For comparison, the batteries we install, such as Deye, GoodWe and Alpha ESS, carry 10-year warranties to 70%. That's the gap. If your quote is for a MINA, ask for the warranty card that covers its 7 kWh module, because the APX card above names the 5 kWh module.

Growatt battery price on the Sunshine Coast

We don't install Growatt, so we can't give our installed price for it. Here are the bands for the batteries we do install, as a yardstick.

Installed battery prices on the Sunshine Coast, as at August 2026, before the rebate:

Battery sizeInstalled, before rebate
5 kWh$8,500–$9,500
10 kWh$13,000–$14,500
15 kWh$17,500–$19,500

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program pays roughly $252 per usable kWh for the first 14 kWh since 1 May 2026, so a 10 kWh battery earns about $2,520. The rate steps down every six months. If a Growatt bundle looks cheap, weigh the saving against the warranty terms above.

The Sunshine Coast angle

  • Salt air and shelter. The warranty excludes outdoor installs without proper shelter, so a Growatt battery needs to go under cover regardless of its IP66 rating. Near the beach that matters twice; our guide to salt air and coastal solar explains why.
  • Heat. The APX's operating limit is 50°C and direct sun is excluded. Pick a shaded wall with airflow, not a hot garage in western sun.
  • Internet. With the warranty dropping to three years without monitoring, reliable Wi-Fi or 4G at the battery is non-negotiable, which can be a challenge on hinterland blocks.
  • Storm backup. The MINA's 63A bypass is designed for whole-home backup; on an APX system, backup depends on the inverter and backup box. Ask which circuits are covered.
  • Grid connection. Energex approves the connection and sets export limits before installation, confirmed at application.

Who Growatt suits, and who should skip it

A Growatt battery could suit you if you:

  • Already have a Growatt battery-ready inverter and want matched storage
  • Have a sheltered, monitored install spot and an installer who services Growatt locally
  • Plan to stay in the home for the long haul

Look somewhere else if you:

  • Might sell within ten years, since the warranty isn't transferable
  • Plan to cycle the battery hard or join an aggressive VPP
  • Want a 10-year warranty to 70% capacity

What we'd install instead

If Growatt appealed because of price and a well-known inverter name, Sungrow is the closest like-for-like that we install: inverter and battery from one maker, with an Australian office and a 10-year warranty to 70% (see our Sungrow battery review). If the MINA's all-in-one design caught your eye, the GoodWe ESA offers the same idea with a 63A bypass and a 10-year warranty to 70% of usable energy (see our GoodWe battery review). For the most capacity per dollar, we lead with Deye (Deye battery review), and our ranked best solar battery in Australia guide covers the rest.

Our battery installation team on the Sunshine Coast will size the system from your evening usage and quote the brands we stand behind.

Frequently asked questions

Is Growatt a good battery?

The hardware is reasonable: cobalt-free LFP modules, IP66, aerosol and fuse protection and a flexible 5 to 30 kWh stack. The warranty is the weak spot. Growatt's Australian APX warranty is non-transferable, guarantees 70% capacity for five years and 50% for the next five, caps yearly throughput and drops to three years without monitoring. We don't install Growatt as standard.

Is Growatt a Chinese company?

Yes. Growatt is headquartered in Shenzhen, China, and its batteries are made in China. Its Australian arm, Growatt New Energy Australia Pty Ltd, is in Silverwater, NSW.

What warranty does a Growatt battery have?

The APX HV battery has a 10-year, non-transferable warranty in Australia. It guarantees at least 70% of nominal energy for the first five years and 50% for the following five, with a yearly throughput limit, and it reduces to three years if the battery isn't on Growatt's monitoring platform. Outdoor installs without shelter and direct sun are excluded.

Are Growatt inverters any good?

Growatt makes a broad range, from battery-ready single-phase MIN XH inverters to three-phase hybrids and off-grid SPF units, which makes it easy to add a battery later on the same brand. Some SPH hybrids sold in 2022–23 were recalled over a removable EPS plug; the remedy is to have Growatt permanently secure the connector. For an inverter we'd stand behind on the Sunshine Coast, we usually recommend Sungrow, GoodWe or Deye.
